Elsa Benetiz is a Mexican supermodel born on December 8th 1977 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. She is probably best recognised for her modelling career and her marriage to Basketball star Rony Seikaly.
Elsa’s career kicked off after she entered and won a modelling competition in Costa Rica. Work soon began to open up for her in Mexico, the US and Europe. That she shot straight to supermodel stardom after she was featured many times on the US and Italian Vogue in his layouts.
In 1996 she appeared on the cover of Vogue Italy for the months of April, August and September. She then signed with ‘Elite Model Management’ Company and continued to enjoy huge success featuring on all the top magazines including Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire and Glamour. Elsa has also been involved with advertising campaigns for several high profile clients such as Dolce and Gabbana, Macy’s, Valentino and has even modelled for Victoria’s secret.
In 1999 she went on to appear in the ‘Pirelli Calendar’ featuring women through the decades. She then famously starred in the popular singer Enrique Iglesias music video for the song ‘Love to see you cry’ in 2002.
She appeared in ‘Sports Illustrated’ in 2002 and later they went on to feature her again in 2004 and published a story of her premonition that something bad was going to happen on board the flight she was due to catch whilst travelling one day. She reportedly caught the later flight and it turns out that the flight she was due to be on was actually the TWA Flight 800–a Boeing 747 that exploded over the Atlantic. She now says “It made me appreciate so much that just being alive is a gift."
